Every donation is crucial
DONATE NOWThanks to our donors:
— Children received medicines, medical supplies, and underwent examinations costing a total of $138,162. This month, 190 children received such targeted assistance — the highest number since the Foundation’s inception.
In particular, the drug Blinatumomab, costing over $24,000, was provided for Arthur, a 12-year-old boy fighting blood cancer. In complex cases, such expensive medicines may be the only chance for a child to continue treatment and recover. Together, we ensure children receive everything they need in time to overcome their illness.
— Eight hospitals received medicines and supplies worth $209,245. Of this amount, $81,756 was spent on rare and costly anti-tumor drugs Brentuximab vedotin and Bevacizumab, which will help 20 children fight their disease. $50,776 was allocated for neurosurgical consumables, enhancing the safety of these interventions.
$80,248 was also allocated to improving hospital infrastructure. Of this, $66,606 went toward an expert assessment of damage to the Okhmatdyt National Specialized Children’s Hospital following a Russian missile attack on July 8, 2024. This assessment is a prerequisite for the hospital’s reconstruction.
Thanks to donors and partners, we provide systematic support to key Ukrainian medical institutions treating pediatric oncology. Despite the war, we are increasing their capacity and ensuring children receive care in more comfortable conditions.
— In October, 157 doctors attended conferences, observerships (including those abroad), training courses, and English language classes and received financial support. A total of $32,517 was allocated to ensure doctors helping children with cancer have access to the most up-to-date knowledge in their field. This marked the highest number of healthcare professionals participating in the educational program in a single month this year.
— $30,038 was allocated to the Foundation’s palliative care program. We support families with terminally ill children, helping them live in comfort and free from pain. We organize consultations with doctors and psychologists, classes with rehabilitation therapists, and provide medicines, necessary care items, and opportunities to fulfill dreams.
— $12,846 was spent on outpatient housing for non-local families in Kyiv and Lviv who need frequent hospital visits for procedures and tests but do not require constant hospitalization. Outpatient apartments are a crucial support for families who cannot afford housing in the city where their child is being treated.
— $10,635 was allocated to mental health assistance for children and their families. Professional psychologists help them cope with the stress of severe illness and war, enabling children and their parents to keep fighting.
— $9,126 was allocated to the In-hospital Quality of Life program. Psycho-emotional support for children and families spending months in hospitals, isolated from their familiar surroundings and unable to engage in their favorite activities, is a key focus of the Foundation’s work. We organize celebrations in oncology wards, creative workshops, ceremonial discharges, and gifts.
— $11,227 was allocated to the Survivorship Care Program. Even when cancer recedes, its psychological impact often lingers. Our camps, outings, and meetings of the Lemonade Barrel teenage club, which celebrated its fifth anniversary in October, and family team-building events help families cope and return to active life.
— $8,627 was allocated to support families in difficult life circumstances. These families, often financially drained by prolonged battles with a child’s illness, receive help with winter clothes, food, and better living conditions.
— $5,378 was spent on evacuating and supporting families abroad. When a child’s required treatment is unavailable in Ukraine, we help them access it abroad and, if desired, assist in their return to continue therapy at home.
The Foundation’s expenses for raising funds to help children amounted to 11.2%, and administrative expenses amounted to 2.8%.
The increase in fundraising expenses in June and October was due to license fees for the Salesforce donor relationship management software. The Foundation received a grant from GlobalGiving for this purpose.
