Maksym has been receiving treatment for blood cancer since July 2025. Most of that time he has lived with his mother in almost complete isolation, as he needed a bone marrow transplant.

It is a complex procedure after which a child’s immune system must rebuild from scratch. During this period, it is especially important to protect a child from infections.

Just this summer, Maksym was dreaming of starting school and preparing for this important new chapter in his life. But cancer forced him to put those plans on hold.

When he feels well enough, he joins online classes. But it is not the same as sitting at a real desk in a classroom or running around during breaks with other children.

Maksym dreams of being active again — playing outside, kicking a ball, riding his bike.
