Every donation is crucial
DONATE NOWThanks to our donors:
— Children received medicines, other medical supplies, and underwent examinations, totaling $117,017.
Specifically, we purchased six packages of Defibrotide abroad. This medicine helps treat a rare and life-threatening liver condition that can occur after a bone marrow transplant.
For many children, support from donors is the only chance to receive expensive and rare medicines — ones the state does not procure.
— Seven hospitals received medicines and supplies worth $104,243. This includes partially covering the six-month need for several medicines and materials for the neurosurgery department at the Clinical Center of Children’s Healthcare in Lviv.
Another $101,626, was allocated to improve the hospital infrastructure. Most of this amount was spent on repair works at Okhmatdyt. We continue supporting the hospital’s recovery after the missile attack in July last year — including the renovation of the Bone Marrow Transplantation Department.
— In March, 165 healthcare professionals took part in conferences, trainings, English courses, and received financial support. This month, we also held our training “Effective Communication Skills for Doctors,” with nine participants from the second cohort of the Know-HOW educational initiative. The training is designed to help doctors build stronger communication with patients and their families.
We consistently invest in the knowledge and skills of medical professionals so that children can receive better care. This month, program expenses totaled $35,729.
— $34,537 was spent on palliative care for 55 families with terminally ill children. Lately, the number of families in this program has been steadily growing. Not because fewer children are recovering — but because more parents are learning about this kind of support and reaching out, seeking to improve their family’s quality of life during this difficult time.
We do everything we can to relieve children’s pain and help them spend meaningful time with their loved ones — despite the challenging circumstances.
— $17,145 was spent on psychological assistance to 131 children and their families. It is extremely difficult for families caught between two wars — both the country’s and the one with childhood cancer — to find the strength to continue fighting and remain optimistic. Professional psychologists help them manage significant stress.
— $9,801 covered the cost of providing outpatient housing for 30 families (child + one adult) in Kyiv and Lviv. When a child lives hundreds of kilometers away from the hospital, they cannot come in for procedures and tests as often as needed. For families financially exhausted by their child’s treatment and unable to rent housing on their own, we offer outpatient apartments near hospitals.
— $7,202 was allocated to the Hospital Quality of Life program. Through this program, we give families a Care Package — a set of thoughtful items meant to offer emotional support during the first, the hardest months of treatment. We also organize workshops, celebrations in oncology departments, and special discharge ceremonies.
Everything we do is aimed at helping children and parents adapt to the new reality and cope with long-term isolation.
— $7,407, was allocated to help families in difficult life situations with their daily needs. We help the beneficiaries of this program with clothes, food, and improved living conditions. The goal of the program is to provide proper care for the child and reduce the risk of premature completion of treatment due to the family’s financial difficulties.
— $5,164 was allocated to support families whose children are receiving treatment abroad. We stay close to families under the Foundation’s care — no matter where they are.
