Daryna first showed symptoms of cancer at the start of the Russian full-scale invasion. At the time, her mother took her to Poland to seek safety from the war.

But doctors there couldn’t determine what was wrong. So the family made the difficult decision to return home.

After a long search, the diagnosis became clear — an 18-centimeter malignant tumor was growing in Daryna’s pelvis.

Recently, she had second surgery at the Clinical Center of Children’s Healthcare in Lviv. She is now recovering and learning to walk again.

More than anything, Daryna dreams of going home and playing with her older brother as much as she wants.
